Flu Symptoms

Flu symptoms come from influenza virus which causes the flu, a very common and highly contagious respiratory infection. Flu is a more severe illness than the common cold. Not only can it lead to pneumonia, but some types of the disease are even fatal.

A flu virus falls into one of three categories.
Type A: the most common, is responsible for serious and widespread epidemics.
Type B: causes milder epidemics than those of Type A.
Type C: is relatively uncommon but sometimes causes outbreaks of mild flu.

Symptoms:  Flu symptoms are similar to those of a bad cold—fever, sore throat, muscle aches, running nose cough, and headache but they come on more suddenly, are more severe, and last longer.

Self Treatment:
Bed rest, while your body fights the virus, is the best medicine. If you have fever, drink extra fluids, including fruit juice, tea, and broth, to prevent dehydration. Extra fluids also help thin any lung secretions. For a sore throat, try gargling with warm, double-strength, or warm salt water. See a doctor if you have fever and are pregnant; or if fever rises very high. Chicken soup really does ease off this symptom. It helps to thin mucus and clear congestion. Vitamin C helps to prevent cold and shorten the course of those that do develop. For the achiness of flu, try soaking your feet in a basin of hot water for 20 minutes.

Alternative Therapies like Aromatherapy, Herbal Medicine, Homeopathy and Hydrotherapy are some which may help to alleviate the flu symptoms.
