Gallstones symptoms

The pouch like organ situated just under the liver, in the upper-right portion of the abdomen is called gallbladder where small hard pellets are formed. They are made of cholesterol crystals and bile salts which are digestive substances manufactured in the liver and stored in the gallbladder. Gallstone, if blocks one of the ducts that carry bile from the gallbladder to the intestine, the result can be severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, bloating, sweating and jaundice.

Medical Treatment:
Those that cause recurrent painful attacks are most often treated by removing the gallbladder. A laparoscopic cholecystectomy, reduces the length of a patient’s hospital stay. A doctor usually makes the initial diagnosis of an acute attack on the basis of symptoms. There are alternative therapies like Acupuncture and Acupressure, Herbal Medicine, Homeopathy, Nutrition. These alternative therapies are unlikely to cure gallstones, but they may alleviate the pain of an attack.

Self Treatment:
Adopt a cholesterol-lowering diet that is high in starches and fibre, and limit fat intake. If you are overweight, try to lose excess pounds gradually through a sensible combination of diet and exercise. Avoid crash diet, however because rapid weight loss sometimes precipitates a gallstone attack. Women who have had the stones should avoid birth control pills and estrogens replacement, because high levels of this hormone have been associated with gallbladder disease.

When an attack does occur, do not eat, but do take a pain killer and rest in bed. You should see a doctor for gallstones symptoms.
